Creating a Home That Feels Like You
Whimsical Interiors Inspired by Nature and Storytelling
There’s something magical about a home that feels truly lived in — not just occupied, but infused with memory, intention, and joy. For me, a home that feels like “you” tells a story. It reflects where you’ve been, how you got here, and the gentle dreams of where you’re heading next. It isn’t about following trends or what’s “in.” It’s about building a space that feels honest, comforting, and filled with things you love.

Let Nature and Meaning Guide You
Our home is layered with natural materials, stories, and soft whimsy. Most of our furniture is oak, salvaged or second-hand — strong, timeless, and sustainable. We’ve slowly collected it over the years, knowing it will last.
On the walls, we display art prints by makers and local artists, many featuring animals, folklore or natural scenes. Children’s toys — particularly wooden ones from Bumbu Toys and Holztiger — often double as decor. They add gentle colour and joy to the shelves, and blur the line between play and storytelling.
I use a lot of houseplants too. They bring the space to life and remind me daily of the value of care, growth, and light.

A Shelf That Feels Like Me
One corner I particularly love is a set of oak shelves in our kitchen. They’re filled with objects that feel like fragments of who I am. There’s a collection of hand-carved animal figurines, some favourite cookery books, a limited edition wooden Grimms rainbow, handmade pom-pom flowers, and a few Bumbu trees gifted to me by my husband over the years.
It was one of the first spaces I ever truly styled with intention. I played with shape, colour, and balance, and the result is something that makes me smile every time I walk past it.
Make Pinterest Personal
I think Pinterest can be incredibly inspiring — but it can also lead us into creating homes that look good but don’t feel like us. My advice? Make a board for each room, and add to it slowly. Over time, go back and delete anything that doesn’t resonate. Look for themes that emerge naturally. Your style is in there, waiting to show itself.
And don’t limit yourself to interiors when gathering inspiration. Pin a photo of a windswept field if you want your living room to feel airy. Pin a mossy forest path if you’re after earthiness. Let your mood board reflect feelings, not just furniture.
Whimsical Interiors, Handmade with Heart
Some of my favourite products embody this quiet magic — each one handmade, drawn from nature, and designed to evoke storytelling and softness.
-
🕊️ Swallow Lampshade – gentle birds in flight across a fading sky
-
🪿 Heron Wetland Print – serene birds from our local lakes, captured in soft detail
-
🌲 Little Red Riding Hood Lampshade – playful, storybook folklore for whimsical woodland rooms
Each piece is created slowly, with intention, using organic cotton and quality finishes. I believe that even the most functional object — like a lampshade — can bring wonder to a room.
Imperfect, But Full of Soul
In our home, I value imperfection over perfection. I’d much rather have a slightly scratched solid cabinet that tells a story than a matching showroom set. I believe homes should evolve slowly, layered with years and memories — not bought in one go. To me, each item should either be something you love, or something you need. Nothing else.
This is what slow decorating is really about: choosing well, choosing less, and choosing meaningfully.
If you’re just starting out, don’t be afraid to go slow. Your home doesn’t need to look finished. It needs to feel right.
Sustainability as a Foundation
Sustainability is woven through everything I do — from the way we source our furniture, to the organic cotton I use in my designs. When I make something, it’s designed to last for years, not seasons. I believe when we choose pieces that feel personal, we naturally begin to consume more slowly and intentionally.
Let your home tell a story. Let it grow with you.
